
Anthony David Gonzalez was born on 27 February 1976 in Torrance, California. He grew up in the southern part of California and was a student at Huntington Beach High School, where he was a star athlete on both the basketball and football teams. Gonzalez continued to be a star in both sports at the University of California, Berkeley. He played with the football team in the 1996 Aloha Bowl. Here, Gonzalez tied the school's bowl record with nine receptions. Gonzalez later led the basketball team to Sweet 16 in the NCAA basketball tournament a few months later. He then left school for the 1997 NFL Draft. The Kansas City Chiefs chose Gonzalez as their thirteenth overall pick. Gonzalez was a member of the Chiefs from 1997 to 2008. Then, he was traded to the Atlanta Falcons. He was never able to catch less than 59 passes during Gonzalez's second NFL season.
